Plumber Cristian Torres works odd jobs near his home in Long Island City. But while plumbing pays the bills, his passion is art. Torres uses his knowledge of plumbing and electricity to make spectacular creations.
Plumber Cristian Torres moved to Queens from Argentina after his home country’s economic collapse in the early 2000’s, leaving behind a young daughter and his whole family. He worked as a day laborer for many years before finding his way into more stable jobs. But a true transformation in Torres life came when he began to create art. Torres still works plumbing jobs but finds that making art with plumbing fittings, pipes and wires helps him fend off the darkness that comes from a life of hardship. He’s holding an open house at his studio in Long Island City on Saturday March 29th. For more information visit his website. plumbingart.com
